An Occasional Blog Featuring Recent Work

One of my favorite new industrial clients I got to photograph for this past summer was Breaux Petroleum Products at their Lake Charles location.  Their marketing manager and I had a few pre-shoot phone meetings to discuss what their current marketing looks like, and what services and markets they are looking to expand with their two South Louisiana locations.

"Lindsey has a great eye for what looks good... even in an industrial setting where things are quite boring and not pleasing to the eye!"

"She also made all of our employees feel extremely comfortable in front of the camera, which only improved the quality of the photos. Lindsey and her entire team are true professionals and will make sure everything is good to go ahead of shoot day."

We decided to spend about six hours together and created a priority and planning list of all we "had" to cover, and then those "wish list" photos that would be excellent if time allowed.  (Happily, time did allow!  I always strive to underpromise and overdeliver.)

"If you are looking for an industrial-focused photographer, Lindsey is it. We look forward to working with her on several more projects in the future!"

- Hannah Breaux, Breaux Petroleum Products

The on location photoshoot fell during one of the hottest months of the year, and this year, we have also experienced an unusually intense heat and drought.  But I am pleased and proud to say the heat does not "show" by their incredible group; as their personalities and easy to work with demeanor allowed us to create a very versatile variety of fresh marketing photography to feature all that this family owned business has to offer.

From their website:  Breaux Petroleum Products is an established distributor of quality products for energy, automotive, marine, industrial and aviation needs throughout South Louisiana.

As I'm updating our website images, replacing many with more recent marketing photography from the past year, I still have several favorites I've created for our clients over the years.  Most of these photographs were created for marketing for a hotel and resort, a specific restaurant, or part of a larger area (state) tourism marketing campaign, which always requires a lot of rich beautiful food and drink images.  Instead of "deleting" these all together, I decided to move them here to the blog so they can still be occasionally enjoyed and/or referenced when I'm talking with potential future clients in shoot planning.

Since COVID, I haven't had near as many traveling assignments... but that seems to be improving as 2021 moves into the second quarter.

I flew back in yesterday from a photoshoot of properties in the Rio Grande Valley.  While in between assignments, as well as sometimes on the properties I was there to capture, I couldn't stop myself from photographing all of the prickly pear cactus blooms!  I'd feel comfortable assuming probably 30% of all imagery I came home with is of cacti.  ha!

Sharing some of my favorites with more to add as I continue to cull through the 3 day trip.  (These are from one location!)

I processed a group of photographs in a bluer tone... I love these just as much.  I can't decide on some which version is my favorite!

I loved this interior architectural photography assignment: to capture the fabulous interior restoration of Immaculate Conception Cathedral in downtown Lake Charles!

I was contacted by a quite impressive business from Milwaukee, Wisconsin who specializes in these specialized efforts.  They asked if I would photograph their recently completed work done at our downtown Lake Charles catholic church, Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.  I was thrilled, as I've witnessed the restoration efforts from afar being a fellow downtown neighbor.

Their shoot list was simple, though it proved to take much longer than expected to capture these images of the interior, as there was still much renovating occurring in the adjacent areas as well as outside.  Because of this, there were a few times when a neon safety vested worker would walk right through the shot, unbeknownst to me for a few seconds. (It's a long stretch from the very back to the front, even in the camera!)  A few local parishioners came in to pray, thinking they weren't in the camera's way, and for most of my time there, immediately next to my tripod and me on the stepladder, there was a guy installing something that took quite awhile and was very loud (ha) in the back confessional.  All the while, sounds of hammering and drilling coming from the Sacresty behind the altar.  Perhaps my joy of the results is somewhat tied into my love of the seemingly peaceful look of the final images!  #gottalovephotography

I wanted to appropriately balance the mixed light sources, without adding any lighting of my own.  Per the client's request, it was to be photographed in it's natural lighting.  Thus, we had a mix of ambient temperatures coming from their brand new LED chandeliers (molded to replicated perfection!), the various spotlights throughout, as well as the sunlight coming through the stained glass.

Equipment used:

- My faithful, super sturdy tripod maxed out in it's height of about 8 feet

- Nikkor Tiltshift lens

- stepladder

- Case Air wireless tethering system connected to my iPad Pro (for shake reduction for long exposures)

I love how the finished product turned out and I was thrilled to receive wonderful feedback from our clients, Conrad Schmitt Studios!

(In business since 1889, Conrad Schmitt's portfolio is worth checking out!)

I kinda love this title.  Cloudy Horizons are across the country and world right now.  Continuing a theme of my favorite cloudy views from my camera.

A few favorites from a trip down to Key West in 2018.  These, however, are from an afternoon in a rental car (turned out it wasn't the best day for a gorgeous mustang convertible).  We spent the day driving from one end of the keys to the other and back.  This afternoon storm and the few images I captured on this one afternoon have stayed a personal favorite to view.  There's such a calm in the observation of the weather in photographs.
